Menopause
Helping women gain relief from the symptoms which may accompany menopause and perimenopause

The very word strikes fear into the hearts of many American women.

Don’t worry, I am now 3 years postmenopausal and I’m here to tell you everything is fine.

I think the reasons many American women fear menopause are:

1. Fear of aging.      Good News

Fact: The longer you live, the happier you're likely to be, a growing body of research shows.

Researchers who spoke at the recently concluded annual convention of the American Psychological Association in Toronto said that mental health generally improves with age. Reporting on several studies of aging and mental health Susan Turk Charles, a professor at the University of California, Irvine, said the findings indicate that happiness and emotional well-being improve with time. Older adults exert greater emotional control, said Charles. Studies show they learn to avoid or limit stressful situations and are less likely than younger adults to let negative comments or criticism bother them.

 2. Fear of loss of sexuality. Good News

Fact: Of post-menopausal women about 50% experience no change in sexual appetite and pleasure; over 30% experience an increase; and, less than 20% experience a decline in sexual appetite and pleasure.

 3. Fear of loss of usefulness. Good News

We have come in our culture to value physical beauty and sexual prowess as the peaks of human experience, but let’s be honest; did those things ever really bring lasting satisfaction or deeper meaning to your life?  In some cultures, menopause is celebrated; the post menopausal woman is the wise woman, or midwife. Her own child baring days are past; she is the wisdom keeper, seer and healer, whose knowledge is sought out to guide others during life's hardships and transitions. Another way it’s been explained is that a pre-adolescent girl is a flower, a woman in her childbearing years is the fruit, and a post-menopausal woman is the seed…she contains the essence of all the preceding life-experiences which she can plant in upcoming generations. Menopause is a woman transitioning from her reproductive years to her self-productive years.

 3. Fear of symptoms of menopause (hot flashes, sleeplessness, irritability). Good News

Fact: You don’t have to suffer.

Women in many other cultures of the world report no menopausal symptoms. Only 5% of Chinese women report menopausal symptoms. Mayan women in Mexico report no menopausal symptoms except irregular periods. In Africa, women in Botswana report no menopausal symptoms except increased sex drive. In Australia, 70% felt good natured and only 4% felt depressed.
